Directions:
Identify a person from a culture that is different to yours. Research various sources (Internet and library) to gain some background knowledge about this person’s culture. You should read at least 3 different and credible readings (use the source material in the paper). You should have at least 8-10 questions that you would like to ask and they should be applicable to the assignment. You can use 8-10 interview questions from the “Example Questions” list that I provided below. Develop a written set of interview questions that you plan to use in your interview. Interview a suitable person using the questions you have prepared and drawing on your background knowledge from your research
Analyze the responses from the interview and present a summary of your findings relating/connecting it to reading material (class and other). Your essay must include a discussion of the value of diversity and the benefit of living in a diverse learning community. Development of relationship with subject, thorough understanding and relating subject to/with reading material.
This must be in the form of a written essay (3-4 pages double spaced – please do not hand in raw field notes or insert questions in the paper).
Minimum 3-4 pages, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point font. Follow APA guidelines. The reference page does not count towards the initial length of paper.
Sources: Paper should include –a minimum of 2 sources/references
References page with sources in APA format must be included. Your paper should contain three main parts:
Introduction and the reflection about your participant’s culture based of culturally appropriate questions (approximately 2 pages).
Personal development based of relationship with subject, thorough understanding, relating your learning and development to/with reading material (class), 1-2 pages.
Conclusion: the importance of diversity (connect it to/with reading material “class and/or other”). (E.g. Why should we learn about other cultures? Why is diversity important?).
I encourage you to insert some quotes of the person you interviewed, as this makes the paper stronger. Sometimes paraphrasing can alter the message the interviewee is trying to relate. (Think of yourself as a journalist for this paper). Describe your experience you had interviewing the person, his/her reactions, the overall atmosphere of the interview, etc. You should also at the introduction of your paper say why you chose to interview the individual. The answers to your questions along with your additional research should allow for a better understanding of today’s diverse world, and how to work with diverse populations on a local and global level.
Interview Questions
Please keep your questions open ended, refrain from directly leading your informant. It is the student’s responsibility to create his/her interview questions, as each individual interview will be unique. The actual interview should not be less than 30 minutes. Start the interview with introductory questions such as the interviewee’s background information, then lead the interview to more specific questions (about the challenges and success in their lives). As for the interview paper, there are no set questions prescribed that one must ask. As each person interviews a unique human being, interview questions will vary. The questions should come organically, meaning throughout the conversation you will be intrigued by something the interviewee says, and you can ask follow up questions. I envision this to be more of a low-key, casual conversation between you and the other individual. And based on your conversation you can express what you have learned from the person.
Some leading questions, for example if you were to interview someone who considers himself/herself diverse, could possibly be about:
General background, i.e., Cultural beliefs, Religious beliefs, Customs, Level of acculturation, etc.
Example Questions to Guide You in Learning About a Person’s Culture if applicable for your interview (feel free to use your own questions):
In what country were you born/associated? What is your definition of “culture?”
How long have you (or your ancestors) been in this country?
How do you define “family?”
How do you define success?
How important is education in your family?
What language did you first learn to speak? What language is used at home?
How do you identify yourself (in terms of your ethnic/racial background, heritage, or culture)?
What is important for others to know and understand about your background or culture?
How has your background or culture influenced who you are today?
What is the role of spirituality, faith or religion in your life? Do you identify with any formal religion/belief system?
What customs or traditions are important to you/your family?
What does your culture/religion/heritage teach you about aging/growing as a human?
How are your culture’s values different from “American” cultural values? Has this caused any problems for you or people you know? (ask for examples). How do you/did you deal with this?
What has been the biggest adjustment for you/your family about life in this country?
Have you ever felt excluded based on your gender or culture?
Is there anything you would like others to know that we have not included here about you or your culture…..
Informal Questions:
Tell me about your family/or the people closest to you.
In times of need, to whom do you turn?
What help or assistance do you give to family members/others close to you?
What help or assistance do you expect and/or receive from family members/others close to you?

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How soon can I get my paper done?

It depends with your deadline. If you need your paper completed in 3 hours, we will deliver it in that time. All you need to do is indicate your deadline in our custom order page here. Alternatively, if you are sending us your instructions via email, please be sure to indicate your deadline.

Will it be completely original? I don't want to be caught in a case of Academic Integrity Violation.

We are as paranoid as you are. Maybe even more! And we understand that the greatest sin you can commit in your academic journey is plagiarizing your academic work. To that end, we have made sure that we check and double-check our papers using high quality plagiarism detection tools such as SafeAssign and Turnitin before submitting the paper to you.

Who is my writer? Is he/she a native English Speaker?

All our writers are native English Speakers. That is not to say that ESL writers are not good, we just prefer hiring native writers because we want the very best people working on your paper. This might mean paying a little bit more for your paper as opposed to when you pay a foreign company whose writers are non-native English Speakers.

What if I need revisions? Will your charge additional for this?

Of course not! If you do happen to require a revision on your paper, our team will handle it for you free of charge. Matter of fact, we won’t rest till you are happy with your paper. So, ask for as many revisions as you need, it’s completely FREE!

Will you give me my money back if I don't like my paper?

We have very few instances where we delivered a paper that a client didn’t fall in love with. But if it so happens that you don’t like your paper for any reason whatsoever, we’ll refund your money back no questions asked.

I have more assignments after this, can you help me with those too?

Of course! And what’s even better is that we can reserve a writer permanently to work on your entire class. This comes in handy for projects which build up on each other and where you need just one writer, one writing style.

I got my order information wrong, can I change that?

Yes you can. Just reach out to our support team via email (support@essaynook.com) or live chat here and they’ll help you change the instructions.

Can I place an order via email instead of going through the order page?

Yes you can. Email Anna at anna@essaynook.com, she’s in charge of our sales team. Alternatively, you can talk to our Live Chat team here and request to speak to Anna.
